# Tournament golf with PinFlag

> Canonical: https://pinflag.io/answers/tournament-golf

Preview the course, capture the round in full, and read it shot by shot afterwards.

**What does tournament mode do in PinFlag?** It keeps logging every shot and every distance in full while it holds the live strokes gained back from the display, so the round is captured completely and the full analysis is there the moment you finish. Regular rounds show everything live; tournament mode is the same record with the number held until the card is signed.

**How do I prepare for a tournament with PinFlag?** Open the course in preview mode, place the pin where the tournament pin will be, put the aim on each line you are considering and read the strokes gained and Shot Cloud for it with your own dispersion. The tee shots and the par 5 second shots are decided with numbers before the practice round, and the practice round can be logged to check them.

**Can I use PinFlag during a competition?** Tournament mode is built for competition days: every shot and distance logged in full with the live number held until you finish, so the complete record is there whatever the conditions of competition allow on the course. The decisions are made in preview beforehand and the analysis read afterwards.

**How do I review a tournament round in PinFlag?** As a per-shot ledger: every shot with its lie, distance, finish and strokes gained, the shots that won and lost the round ranked, Score Killers for the whole stroke mistakes, the hole trail on the map, and the round repriced under the Tour, Scratch or a handicap lens. It can be shared as a scorecard and exported as CSV or JSON.

**Can my coach see my tournament rounds?** Yes, on a Coach plan. The student’s rounds are measured on the roster’s baseline and visible to the coach, with the student keeping their own history, so a coach reads the tournament round before the next lesson rather than hearing about it.

**Does PinFlag compare rounds on different courses?** Yes, because every shot is priced against the same published tables from its own lie and distance. A 75 on a long course and a 75 on a short one read as different rounds in strokes gained, which is what makes rounds comparable across a season of tournaments.

**What separates a tournament 72 from a 78?** Usually the whole stroke mistakes: a tee shot out of bounds costs 2.05 strokes on the published table and a three-putt from 20 feet 1.12. Six strokes is three of those, and Score Killers names them; the rest is approach proximity, which PinFlag measures by band and club.

**Can I export a tournament round from PinFlag?** Yes. Every round exports as CSV or JSON on request, so the shot ledger can be kept, shared with a coach or read in a spreadsheet, and the data is yours to take.
