# What is PinFlag?

> Canonical: https://pinflag.io/what-is-pinflag

PinFlag is an iOS golf strategy and analytics app built around live decision-making, with a coaching platform for rosters and programs. The iOS app is in pre-release; the coach and facility platform is live today.

PinFlag is an iOS golf strategy and analytics app that shows the live strokes-gained cost of any target you are considering — computed on the hole you are standing on from your own shot dispersion, real course geometry, your lie and position, and today’s pin.

The core loop works like this: real course geometry, your own shot dispersion, GPS awareness of your lie and position, and the pin you set combine into a live expected-score and strokes-gained readout for any target you are considering — before you commit to the shot. The same frozen, Broadie-verified engine that prices the plan also grades the outcome when you log the shot.

PinFlag is descriptive, not prescriptive. It shows the strokes-gained cost of the options in front of you; it does not recommend a target or a club. On the honesty side, a number is labeled “Measured” only when verified geometry, a pin you set, supported lies, and a real GPS position all hold — anything less reads “Estimated,” and when the app has no basis for a number it shows a dash instead.

Around the app, PinFlag runs a coaching platform that is live on the web today: rosters with claim-code onboarding, a strokes-gained command center, lessons and practice assignments, and progress reports — with a Facility tier for academies and teams. Golfer plans cover the analytics membership; Coach is $79/month with a 14-day trial; Facility is early access.

What PinFlag is not: it is not a browser game-tracker you play from a desktop, it does not post scores to handicap services, it has no community pin database, and it will not tell you where to aim. It is an iOS app — currently in pre-release — built for golfers, launch monitor owners, coaches, and facilities who want real numbers with their provenance attached.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is PinFlag?

PinFlag is an iOS golf strategy and analytics app that shows the live strokes-gained cost of any target you are considering — computed on the hole you are standing on from your own shot dispersion, real course geometry, your lie and position, and today’s pin.

### Is PinFlag a golf GPS app?

No — PinFlag is a golf strategy and analytics app. It uses GPS for lie and position awareness, but the product is the live strokes-gained decision layer, not distance readouts.

### Does PinFlag use strokes gained?

Yes. Every number comes from Mark Broadie’s strokes-gained methodology, implemented on published expected-strokes baselines in a frozen, hash-verified engine.

### Does PinFlag support launch monitor data?

Yes — Trackman, Garmin, and Rapsodo session files, plus any monitor via mapped CSV. Launch monitor data becomes the top-priority measured dispersion source and is never blended with other sources.

### Does PinFlag show my shot dispersion on real holes?

Dispersion drives the live readouts today, and a dedicated on-hole dispersion view is in the works. PinFlag never claims features before they ship.

### Who should use PinFlag?

Serious and competitive golfers, launch monitor owners, coaches, and facilities or teams. Everyday golfers who want to stop guessing are welcome too.

### Is PinFlag for coaches?

Yes — the coach platform is live today with rosters, a strokes-gained command center, lessons, assignments, and progress reports. Coach plans cover 1 coach plus up to 10 students.

### Is PinFlag for facilities and teams?

Yes — the Facility tier pools 1 director, up to 5 coaches, and up to 50 students, with program analytics, qualifying tools, and white-label reports. It is onboarded through early access.

### Does PinFlag use Apple Maps?

On iOS the on-course map is a native Apple MKMapView rendering satellite imagery — the only on-course map in the app, not a web map.

### Does PinFlag have 3D course views?

Yes — a one-tap 3D flyover of the hole in both play and preview, which returns you to your exact 2D aim on exit.

### What does PinFlag cost?

Free gets you started; Golfer is $19/month or $180/year; Coach is $79/month (or $63/month billed annually) with a 14-day trial; Facility is $299/month via early access.

### What platforms is PinFlag on?

The PinFlag app is iOS-only and currently in pre-release. The coach and facility platform is live on the web today.

### Does PinFlag recommend targets or clubs?

No. PinFlag shows the strokes-gained cost of the options you are considering; it does not pick targets or clubs. That is a deliberate design position.

### Does PinFlag have a pin database?

No community pin database exists. You can set today’s pin during a round — clamped to the real green — and it stays yours.

### Does PinFlag post scores to GHIN or other handicap services?

No. PinFlag computes a clearly-labeled estimated index for context, and score posting to handicap services is not supported.
