Our mission
PinFlag Analytics gives coaches, academies, and teams the same Strokes Gained tools used across professional golf — applied to a whole roster. We believe data-driven coaching beats guesswork every time, and that the coaches who can prove a player is improving are the ones families and programs keep investing in.
What is Strokes Gained?
Strokes Gained (SG) is an analytical framework developed by Columbia Business School professor Mark Broadie and popularized by the PGA Tour. Instead of measuring results (score), it measures performance by comparing each shot to a benchmark — how would a tour pro play this situation? It's the most honest way to see exactly where a player is gaining or losing strokes, and to prove that the gap is closing over time.
There are four SG categories, computed for every player on a roster:
- SG: Off the Tee — driving performance vs. the benchmark
- SG: Approach — irons and mid-range play
- SG: Around the Green — chipping, pitching, and the short game
- SG: Putting — putting on a per-round basis
A positive SG means a player is gaining strokes on the field; negative means losing them. The category breakdown tells a coach exactly what to work on next — and the trend over time is the proof of improvement parents, athletic directors, and college coaches want to see.
Why PinFlag, for coaches
Most golf apps track one golfer's score. None are built for a coach developing a whole roster — seeing at a glance who's improving, who needs attention this week, and turning that into assignable practice and a report you can hand a family.

It computes Strokes Gained for every player from data they log on the phone they already carry — no launch monitors, wearables, or sensors to manage across a team — benchmarks each player against their age and level, and pairs it with Claude AI to generate branded progress reports grounded only in real numbers.
