Compare golf stat apps
Straight comparisons, each one leading with who the tool fits rather than with who wins. Two questions decide almost all of it, and they are worth settling before you read any of them.
Question one
Will you buy hardware?
Sensors and tracking watches buy you one thing: you stop having to record shots. They do not make the strokes gained more correct, because the arithmetic is public and identical everywhere. If you are happy to tap a shot in, three of the six apps below need nothing but the phone in your pocket.
Question two
Before the shot, or after the round?
Most of this category grades the round afterwards, which is a report you read in the car park about decisions you can no longer change. Two apps price a shot before you hit it, and only PinFlag draws your own shots on the hole around the target and reads the lie from the course.
The field, in one table
| App | Hardware | Number arrives | Phones |
|---|---|---|---|
| PinFlag | None | Before the shot, on any target you pick, with your own pattern drawn on the hole | iPhone |
| WhyGolf | None | Before and after; names a target for you | iPhone, Android |
| UpGame | None | After the round | iPhone |
| Golfshot | Apple Watch for auto tracking | After the round | iPhone, Android |
| Arccos | Sensors or the Air unit | After the round; names a club and a line | iPhone, Android, Watch |
| Shot Scope | Watch or club tags | After the round | iPhone, Android |
If you need it working on Android this week, the answer is Shot Scope, WhyGolf or Golfshot, and nothing else on this page changes that. If you want to spend nothing, WhyGolf has a version that costs nothing. Those are real answers and they are not PinFlag.
