Best Golf Stat Tracking App
A golf stat tracking app is only as good as the shots it captures and the stats it derives from them. PinFlag captures every shot with its aim, its result, its lie and its distance in two taps, then derives strokes gained by category, proximity by band and club, a start-position table, three-putt frequency, Score Killers, heat maps and hole trails, and it prices the shot before you hit it as well as after.
PinFlag is best for
Golfers who want the stats that explain a score, priced in strokes, from shots they can log in two taps with nothing to buy.
The field is best for
Golfers who want sensors to capture the shots without a tap (Arccos, Shot Scope) or a scorecard app with GPS and simple stats (Golfshot, 18Birdies).

What a stat app captures
Two facts per shot: the lie and distance before it, and where the ball finished. Everything else is arithmetic on those.
Fairways, greens, putts, proximity and strokes gained can all be rebuilt from the lie and distance before every shot and where it finished. An app that captures those two facts can compute any stat; an app that asks you to type a score and a putt count cannot go back the other way. PinFlag captures the two facts with two taps on the map, and adds a third that nothing else records: where you aimed, which is how it measures your dispersion from real rounds.
What comes out
The stat that explains a score is strokes gained, split fine enough to name the shot.
Every app here reports strokes gained by category. PinFlag goes further into each: approach proximity by distance band and by club with the share inside 15 and 30 feet and dispersion circles, a start-position table of distance band by lie, short-game proximity by lie, three-putt frequency and make rate by distance, a heat map of leaves, landing zones off the tee, each hole’s shot trail, and Score Killers, which totals the three-putts, two-chips, penalties and doubles that cost whole strokes. Benchmark lenses reprice the same shots against Tour, Scratch or a handicap level.
The difference in when the number arrives is the larger one. Sensor systems and scorecard apps report after the round. PinFlag also prices the shot before you hit it, on any target, with your own dispersion drawn on the hole, so the stat becomes a decision while the decision is still open.
