You run a program: several coaches, squads that move between them, juniors coming through, and a committee or an owner who wants to know it is working. The individual coaching is usually fine. What breaks is the seams between coaches, and the fact that nobody can produce one view of the whole program on a single measure.
The problem
- Players go missing in the seams. A junior who moves from one coach to another arrives with no history attached, and the new coach starts again.
- Every coach measures differently. Without one baseline across the program, two assessments of the same player are two opinions rather than two readings.
- Progress across a season needs a constant measure. Scores move with courses and conditions, so a program needs a measure that holds those constant before it can demonstrate anything to a parent or a board.
