PinFlag for single figure golfers
Tour precision, the Scratch lens, and the half strokes that separate a 5 from scratch.
Is PinFlag detailed enough for a low handicapper?
Yes. Every shot is priced on the same TOUR baseline professional golf uses, approach play is broken down by distance band and club with proximity, the share inside 15 and 30 feet, the 68 and 95 percent dispersion circles and lateral and long-short offsets, the per-shot list sorts by proximity, and the Scratch lens reads the round on a scratch scale.
How precise are PinFlag’s numbers?
As precise as the tour’s own numbers: every shot is priced on Mark Broadie’s published PGA TOUR baselines at the lie and the distance in front of you, in the lie’s own unit, feet on the green and yards elsewhere, and the free calculator on pinflag.io prices the same shot to the same figure so any number can be checked without the app.
What does the Scratch lens do?
It reprices every logged shot against a scratch level table instead of the tour table, labeled Modeled, so a scratch or near scratch golfer reads gains and losses on their own scale. The shots stay exactly as recorded; only the table they are measured against changes.
How does PinFlag measure approach dispersion?
From the positions you placed: the finish of every approach against the pin, by distance band and by club, reported as best and median proximity, the share inside 15 and 30 feet, the 68 and 95 percent dispersion circles, and lateral and long-short offsets against the line to the hole. Launch monitor sessions add the range pattern beside it, with the two sources kept separate.
How far is a scratch golfer from the tour?
About 1 stroke a round on the benchmark model, most of it in the long game: from 150 yards in the fairway the tour average needs 2.945 strokes and scratch about 2.991. Tour players hold plus handicaps of several strokes, so the gap from scratch to the tour average is larger than the gap from a 5 to scratch.
Does PinFlag price to the actual pin position?
Yes. Every distance, every priced target and every putt is measured to the pin you placed on the green, so a front pin and a back pin on the same green are different shots with different numbers, and preview mode lets you place tomorrow’s pin today.
Can I sort my shots by proximity in PinFlag?
Yes. The per-shot list sorts by start distance, lie or proximity, so the approaches that finished furthest from the hole, and the band they came from, are at the top of the list rather than averaged into a greens hit number.
What separates a 5 handicap from scratch?
About five strokes a round, which on Broadie’s split is roughly 3.3 in the long game, 1.0 in the short game and 0.8 putting. At that level the strokes are half shots of proximity, which is what PinFlag measures by band and club.
