Stats and Insights
Every figure computed from real shots, with the leak named.
What stats does PinFlag show after a round?
Strokes gained by driving, approach, short game and putting, per round and across the season on a radar; a per-shot list sortable by start distance, lie or proximity; fairways, greens in regulation and putts derived from the shots; approach proximity by distance band and by club, with best, median, share inside 15 and 30 feet and dispersion circles; a start-position cross-tab of distance band by lie with greens hit and strokes gained per cell; short-game proximity by lie; up-and-downs and sand saves; three-putt frequency and make rate by distance; Score Killers, which counts the three-putts, two-chips, penalties and double bogeys that cost whole strokes; a heat map of leaves around the hole; landing zones off the tee; and each hole’s shot trail on the map.
Are PinFlag’s stats computed from real shots or estimated from a scorecard?
From real shots only. Every figure in Insights derives from the shots you logged and priced on the course. A round is saved only when every hole and every shot are logged, so no estimate from a card ever mixes into the numbers, and where a sample is too small for a rate PinFlag shows the count and waits for more shots rather than printing a percentage two shots cannot support.
What is a benchmark lens?
A different expected strokes table for a chosen scoring level, derived from the published TOUR tables and labeled Modeled in the app. Switch the lens from Tour to Scratch or a handicap level and every logged shot is repriced against it, so a bogey golfer reads gains and losses relative to a bogey golfer instead of a TOUR player. It changes what you are measured against, never what was recorded.
Can I see which shots cost me the most strokes?
Yes. Every shot has its own strokes gained, the round view ranks your best and worst shots, the Score Killers card totals the shots that cost whole strokes, and the hole trail draws each hole’s shots on the map, so the three shots that decided a round are findable in seconds.
Does PinFlag show proximity to the hole?
Yes, in feet, by approach distance band and by club, from the positions you placed: best, median, share inside 15 and 30 feet, and the 68 and 95 percent dispersion circles, plus lateral and long-short offsets measured against the line to the hole.
How does PinFlag handle nine-hole rounds?
A nine is priced by its own nine holes and its own par, and stated per 18 holes when it is combined into a season, so nines and eighteens average together correctly. The hole count is stored with the round rather than guessed from the par.
Does PinFlag track my progress over a season?
Yes. The season view carries strokes gained by category across every round this year against last year, round history with each round’s categories, and the same breakdowns by distance band, lie and club across the whole season, so a change in your game shows up as a number moving rather than a feeling.
