Courses and course maps
The course map every number is built on, the pin you place, and the round played on it.
How does PinFlag map a golf course?
Each hole ships inside the app as a course map: tee, fairway, rough, bunkers, fringe, green and the hazards, with the boundaries. The app reads your position and your target off the map to find the lie, and every strokes gained number, before the swing and after it, is priced from the table for the surface the ball is on.
Does PinFlag use GPS?
Location, when it is available, places you on the hole faster. Map placement works with no fix at all: you place the pin, the target and each finish on the hole by hand, which is also more precise than a phone fix in trees or beside a green, and every number is computed on the phone.
How does PinFlag detect my lie?
From the course map. Your position is read against the fairway, rough, sand, fringe, green and hazards of the hole and priced from the matching table; you confirm the lie in one tap when you log the shot, so the number is for the shot you actually have and the map does the reading for you.
Can I set the pin position in PinFlag?
Yes, and you should: pan the map until the mark sits where the hole is cut and confirm it. Every distance on the hole, every priced target and every putt you place is measured to that pin, and the pins you set during a round are yours.
What is on the hole map in PinFlag?
The course map of the hole, the pin you placed, the aim you are pricing with its strokes gained, Shot Cloud drawn around the aim, and the shot trail of what you have logged so far. Everything you see is the input to the number, so the map and the arithmetic agree.
Does PinFlag show yardages?
Yes: the distance to the pin you placed and to any target you put the aim on, alongside the strokes gained of that target with your lie and dispersion priced in, so the yardage becomes a priced decision rather than a number on its own. Once your launch monitor carries are imported, the plays like distance shows what the club has to cover.
How do I select a course in PinFlag?
Pick the course in the app before the round and the first hole opens with its course map and the pin ready to place. Preview mode opens the same course with full pricing and no round recorded, which is how a course you have never played is planned.
Can I use PinFlag on a course I have never played?
Yes. Preview mode prices every target on every hole with your own dispersion and the lie read from the course map, so the tee shots and the lay ups are decided before you arrive, and the round itself is logged the same way as any other.
